PhD in Economics and former employee of the three Galician universities, Julio Pombo Romero takes the reins of the joint venture created to modernize the economy of the autonomous community through major transformational projects.

 

An expert in renewable energy and economic and financial analysis, Julio Pombo Romero will head the Sociedade para o Desenvolvemento de Proxectos Estratéxicos de Galicia, Impulsa Galicia, created by the Xunta de Galicia, Abanca, Reganosa and Sogama to modernize the economy of the autonomous community through major transformational projects.

AN EXPERT IN FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TAKES OVER AS GENERAL MANAGER OF IMPULSA GALICIA
Julio Pombo, general director of Impulsa Galicia

Julio Pombo (Santiago de Compostela, 1978) has been appointed general manager of Impulsa Galicia at a crucial moment for the materialization of the company’s project portfolio. With a PhD in Economics from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, he has worked, in addition to the Polytechnic University of Madrid, for the three Galician universities: for the University of Santiago, from 2009 to 2011; for the University of A Coruña, from 2015 to 2017; and for the University of Vigo, from 2018 to 2023. He also has experience in the private sphere and since last March he belonged, as economic advisor, to the technical cabinet of the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda.

Throughout his career, Pombo has specialized in the development of business models and financial instruments for the implementation of renewable energy projects and facilities, as well as in the analysis of energy and climate change policies. He is also an expert in technology transfer, asset valuation and financial markets.

The new general manager of Impulsa Galicia replaces Enyd López, who is taking on new professional challenges. The president of the company, María Jesús Lorenzana, who is also the Regional Minister of Economy, Industry and Innovation, thanked López for his performance in the position over the last two years.

Created in April 2021 by the Xunta de Galicia (40%), Abanca (38%), Reganosa (12%) and Sogama (10%), Impulsa Galicia is entrusted with the development of business initiatives that have an impact on the revitalization, progress and transformation of the Galician economy through a green and digital model.
