DESCRIPTION

A tractor effect project that involves turning timber into textiles based on the principles of sustainability and circularity.  The lifecycle of timber will be closed for the first time in Galicia, and more than 200,000 tonnes of sustainable textile fibre will be produced in the autonomous community each year, using certified timber from our forests as well as textile waste.

Once the project was conceived at Impulsa Galicia, the leaders of the sector worldwide were contacted to present the opportunity. Within this process, detailed negotiations were carried out with four large national and international companies with the capacity to execute it. All of them were interested in the size of the project and the possibility of participating in a pioneering innovation ecosystem in circularity.

An equitable, structured and homogeneous negotiation process was followed with potential promoter partners that extended from May to September 2021.

Finally, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Portuguese company Altri.

Leaders

Portuguese paper company and industry leader Altri has been chosen to fund the design and development of this project until investment has secured.  As the project progresses, potential options for alliances within the Galician forestry value chain will be explored.
